Why we chose this topic
We chose our topic because Thomas Edison has done so many legacies and achievements in his life that we use today. Thomas Edison didnt invent the light bulb but he made a better version of it and perfected it. The phonograph was also an invention that was made by Edison so he could perfect the first type of phone. Most of the stuff we use today are influenced by Thomas Edison. We chose to do the project on a website so we could conserve trees.
How our research was conducted
We went to look up our research at the library and the internet. Half of our research were from books and the other half was from the internet. Most of our resources had primary sources about Thomas Edison. The books had pictures and photos of Edison's Journals and notes that he took. Some of the websites were also helpful. The websites had many important information about Edison that had not been in the books. We also learned many interesting things while doing the research. Some of our primary sources were the pictures, quotes, notes, and we even found recordings.(unfortunetly we could not put the recordings on the website)
How our project was created
We first started our project by looking how to make a website for free on the internet. We looked at a couple of sites until we found the right one. Then we started putting all the information that we had gathered from the internet and the books onto the website. We had to cut and paste some of the pictures that we got. We had to make sure all grammar was correct, everything was in the right order, and that we had enough information for the website. We also had to look back at the rubric several times to see if the website was ok. Finally, we needed to publish the website so it could be viewable for everyone.
How our project relates to the theme
Our project relates to the theme of History Day because the theme is legacies and achievements and we explained exactly that. Edison's achievements were his inventions. The legacies that he left were the light bulb, a perfected type of the first phone(the phonograph) and he even started the motion picture business. All that he left and is still here today is his legacies that he did throughout his life.
